    • Mary's Obituary:

      Mrs. Mary Alice Byrd Hinson passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Twin Magnolias Assisted Living in Abbeville, following a brief illness. She was 86.
      Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Sorrells Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dale Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Baptist Church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Geneva, Thursday, Nov. 1, from 6 until 8 p.m.
      Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Eden Baptist Church cemetery fund or Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL.
      Mrs. Hinson was born March 3, 1921, in Coffee County to the late Robert (Bob) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Byrd. She was a faithful member and pianist at Eden Baptist Church for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who always had a kind word for everyone she met. She was a giver; no one ever left her home empty handed or hungry.
      Mrs. Hinson retired from Phillips Van Heusen in Geneva where she worked for 25 years. After retirement, she enjoyed keeping house, gardening, annual trips with her husband and son, and visiting her children, grandchildren and friends.
      The family wishes to thank Darden Kirby and the wonderful staff and residents at Twin Magnolias Assisted Living in Abbeville who made her last two years especially happy and the compassionate staff of Covenant Hospice who comforted and cared for her during her final illness.
      In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hinson was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Hermon E. Hinson; four sisters, Thelma Byrd, Bertha Frill, Gladys Martin and Mildred Crabtree, as well as three brothers, John A. Byrd and two who died in infancy.
      Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Ellis and Shirley Hinson, Eufaula; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Eugene Carter, Dothan; two granddaughters, Angie (Chris) Bizot, and Tracie (John Charles) Jackle, Marietta, Ga.; three grandsons, Jason (Shanna) Carter, Auburn, Gregory (Julie) Hinson, Tuscaloosa, Jeremy (Courtney) Carter, Dothan; ten great-grandchildren, Savanah and Evan Jackle, Ellie and Sam Bizot, John Thomas and Jake Carter, Andrew, Adam and Abbie Hinson and Lauren Hutton Carter; one brother, Elmer Byrd, Valdosta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
