Daniel Lammon was a very quiet and lovable redheaded man. Though he had a very slender string bean-type build, he was a very strong man. He was like a helper to our grandfather [John Lammon]. As twins, they went everywhere together. They would go together to the woods to get materials for woodworking. Daniel never married; he lived with grandfather all his life.

"The story starts away back in history, as far back as the thirteenth century, when LAUMUN, a Highlander, granted to the monks of PAISLEY, certain lands in KILMUN and KILFINAN in Scotland; The story of the Clan is recorded in "The Lamont Clan, 1235-1935, by Hector MacKechnie, published by Neill and Company, Edinburgh, 1938.
"Our story starts with a boy, DANIEL LAMMONS, born somewhere in North Carolina in the year 1787. Who his parents were, where they lived, and from whence they came we do not know; our guess is that they migrated from Scotland, or Northern Ireland, about 1750, at a time when so many Scotch-Irish came to America. We believe that the family landed at Wilmington, North Carolina, and settled in that area. Two brothers, DANIEL and DUNCAN, married there, raised families, and in 1833 moved to Alabama, stopping for two years in Cherokee County, in the northeastern part of the state; then moving to the southeastern part of Alabama, to settle on farms about five miles northeast of Ozark, the county seat of Dale County. Some of the descendants of both brothers live in that area today. I have visited these descendants in Ozark, in Midland City, and in Coffee Springs, all places within a few miles of the original settlement."

"While living in North Carolina DANIEL, the elder, married Miss ISABELLE MACINNESS (born in 1808). They had four children: DUNCAN, born in 1844, who died in an army hospital in Richmond, Virginia, in 1863 (buried in an unmarked grave in a cemetery near the hospital)."

"The second child, MURDOCK DAVIDSON LAMMONS, (my father) born in 1846 who grew to manhood on the family farm, served for sixteen months in General Johnston's army; after the surrender he went back home, to live there as a farmer, and storekeeper until 1873, when greener pastures beckoned him to go westward and settle in Texas. There he met and married my mother, Miss TEXANA RICHARDSON, member of the prominent WILLIAM RICHARDSON family of Henderson County."

"The last children born to DANIEL and ISABELLE were twin boys, DANIEL and JOHN, born November 23, 1848. DANIEL married and raised a family of three children; he died in 1930. His brother John, who never married, died in 1938. [The author, Frank Bishop Lammons has transposed the names. Daniel is the brother that never married. He died in 1927. John married and had a family. He died in 1931. --EBL] my father, MURDOCK, knew very little about the family history except that his grandparents came from Scotland and that his parents came from North Carolina to settle in Ozark some years before his birth. During our childhood we corresponded with our cousins in Alabama; we wished that some day we might visit them. In 1944, during World War II, my sister Texana, living in Houston, met a soldier named Lammons, who lived in Western Florida. He gave her information that resulted in a correspondence with kinfolks. One of the kin was Mr. OMAR BARNES of Ozark, Alabama, the superintendent of Schools there. He had the family bible of his grandfather DUNCAN, who spelled his name LAMMON. Mr. Barnes had a complete history of his family since the birth of DUNCAN in 1792, who was the brother of my grandfather DANIEL LAMMONS."

"Beginning in 1950 I have made several trips to Alabama and Scotland to visit my kin, and to make contacts with the LAMONT CLAN, who live in the Highlands, near Glasgow. The LAMONT ancestral home, TOWARD CASTLE, near Dunoon, was destroyed in 1646, by the CAMPBELL Clan during clan wars. On these trips I became acquainted with many members of the LAMONT Clan and learned our family history."

"The information that I have obtained from the kin in Alabama and Florida, and from the CLAN LAMONT Society and the records in family bibles is contained herein; I record it for the information of our children of today and for
future generations who may be interested in genealogy, and in the story of MURDOCK LAMMONS, his forebears, and his descendants."

"Frank Bishop Lammons and Monteze Williams were married on Aug 22, 1922, Dallas, Texas. No children were born of this marriage. Their last home address was Ranger Creek Road, Boerne, Texas, 32 miles north of San Antonio, Texas. He was educated at Baylor University in Texas and enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb 25, 1905. Retired as a Col. on Sept 30, 1946. He was a world traveler and later in life he taught at Trinity University at San Antonio. He was a history buff and made his classes at the university lively with his clever yarns of his many travels all over the world. He died of heart attack and was buried in Texas." --author unknown

    December 1965
"Dear Friends, In accordance with an age-old custom, another year has slipped by, and it's now time for me to take pen in hand to write you a Christmas letter, to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and to tell you what I have been doing during the past twelve months."

"My activities have been confined to the San Antonio area, as well as elsewhere. Last Christmas, after mailing you a Christmas letter, I took a train trip from that Texas town on the Rio Grande, known so well by thousands of TV listeners (so often the hottest town in the United States)--Presidio, Texas--to the Gulf of Lower California to a port named Popolobampo, hard by Los Mochis. It is a thrilling train ride over a recently constructed track laid across and through the Sierra Madre Mountains, built by Swiss engineers, with seventy-odd tunnels that were necessary in order to cross the rough mountain chain. The trip was made in comfortable Pullman cars, with a modern diner. I was entertained in modern hotels in Los Mochis and Chihuahua City at most reasonable prices."
"Early in June I boarded the good old Queen Mary bound for Europe. For the next sixty days I traveled over five thousand miles by sight-seeing buses from London to Greece, via Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Yugoslavia, Austria, Holland, and finally a swing into Scotland to visit the Highlands and my kin there; then I flew to New York and went on to Chautauqua, New York, to join my sister at that most interesting institution for the remainder of the summer."
"Now I am traveling southwards to spend Christmas holidays in Old Mexico (for the fourth consecutive year). My first stop will be in the quaint colonial town of San Miguel de Allende (200 miles north of Mexico City), a place where life moves slowly, where no one hurries or drops off with heart trouble. After a short stay, I'll move on to the best-illuminated city for a holiday week I have yet seen. Our Mexican neighbors spend the Holy Week celebrating the birth of the Savior, not in the revelries incident to the arrival of Santa Claus. They do a magnificent job of it If you want to take part in a colorful, lively Christmas week then travel down to Mexico, mix with the people in their celebration, and spend a few days in the great world city of Mexico"
"I am enjoying another year of teaching history of the United States to interested citizens (and foreigners) who want to know about the story of this country. Teaching helps me to keep fit mentally (at least, I think it does), and it keeps me busy for a good part of the year."
"This is the report I have to make to you about my activities for 1965. I manage to keep well and happy, although I have to admit that I am aging, but slowly. I wish you all a very merry holiday season, with high hopes that you will keep fit and happy during 1966; and that we will all be around next season to send love and best wishes and et cetera and so forth and cheerios to each other once again Adios, and good luck, always,
    FRANK B. LAMMONS"

    Notes:

Mary Jane sent me a lovely little book (just a loan for a week), covered in tartan plaid, "The Clans and Tartans of Scotland" by Robert Bain, Foreword by His Grace THE DUKE OF MONTROSE. Published by Collins, London & Glasgow, Aug 1938. This book has a history of Highland Scotland plus a picture of every Clan tartan and each clan history.

    ?-- Celeste Lammon Barrus

"Mary Jane Gould is fondly called the "Pope of St. Matthias" by parishioners. From the day she joined St. Matthias in the early 1950s, Mary Jane was "front and center," not only in the pew in which she and her husband Jake chose to sit every Sunday but in her total immersion in St. Matthias' activities. She actively served in the Altar Guild, in the New Church Building Committee, and in the Woman's Guild. She organized those who spent hours creating the needlepoint altar-rail kneeling pads and actually did one herself. She was the instigator and the backbone of the Smorgasbord, the annual luncheon just before Lent which offers the community a "taste" of the cuisine produced by the great cooks of St. Matthias. Above all else, she exemplifies the meaning of Christian love and spirit and inspires all who know her. This book is a small recognition for all she has been to us and the community to which she has contributed so much."

Obituary for Mary Jane Lammons Jacobs
    Mary Jane Lammons Jacobs
    November 29, 1926 ~ March 26, 2011
84 Glorious Years! A Hawaiian girl at heart.

Born Mary Jane Lammons on November 29, 1926, to John and Aurelia Lammons in Kansas City, Missouri.

Her Dad was in the hotel restaurant business and her Mom was a homemaker and "Gold Star Mother." Brothers Jim and Perry served in World War II and, tragically, they would lose Perry in an aircraft accident in the Hawaiian Islands.

Mom married William Paul Jacobs in 1945 and later that year gave birth to Patty Lee, their first of eight children. To follow were Karen Lynn, Deborah Ann (whom they lost shortly afterwards), Sally Ann, Paula Sue, William Perry, Kathryn Jean and John Paul.

Mom's husband (our Dad) was a career Air Force officer (Colonel) and jet pilot. This meant untold moves during this time, all the while Mom packing, unpacking and making each house a home. Mom kept us all well fed with her home cooking, nourished our souls with love and affection and preached to each tolerance, gratefulness and the Golden Rule "¦"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Mom always had an artistic and creative bent to her but it wasn't until we were stationed in Hawaii in 1966-1972 that Mom picked up a paintbrush and put oil to canvas. She was part owner in the Kahala Mall Co-op Art Gallery and became quite well known and successful, not only for her oil works but for other mediums as well such as black sand portraits.

This artistic side to her took a turn when we moved to Longwood in 1972. Mom would channel her creativity in decorating her home with the many knick knacks she would collect and display throughout. It was nice to grow up in the house decorated like she did. It reflected the many sides of her. As one of her best friend's Madeleine said of her, "She was an artist who depicted the beauty of life through her art."

Mom began to work with old time friend Alice Miller, with whom she knew from Hawaii during the last years of being Air Force career wives. Alice and Bob moved here in early 1972 and us shortly afterwards. Alice opened Alice Miller Interiors and invited Mom to be a part of what would become a highly sought after, award winning group of very talented interior designers. During this time Mom once again put paintbrush to canvas but now signed her creations "BiGass' - an inside joke and play on the painter Edgar DeGas'.

Mom was very talented in her work, but what shone through with whom she worked and met was her kindness, understanding and love. Mom was non-judgmental and accepted and loved you for who you were. All who met Mom loved and adored her so. Mom loved working there, however it was her co-workers, who were her friends, that she loved and was the true reason she worked there every day"¦"¦Alice, Kathy, Jerry, Hank, Steve, Brian, Jimmy, Butch, Gill, Alberto, Christina, Lynn, Angela, Raif, Laura, Beverly, Lee, Ann, John, Pauline and Lynn. She truly loved them all. Mom worked there until 2004 when she retired to take care of our Dad until his passing later that year. They were married 59 years!

After her retirement Mom stayed busy with her home, crosswords she loved (NOT SODOKU!), walking, picking flowers, visiting her dear friends Irmgard and Madeleine and especially talking with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mom's grandchildren are Heather, Jason, Alisha, Jessica, Jacob, Chris, Jason, Malia and Nick. Great Grandchildren included Katie, Mikee and Jedadiah. Tragically, we would lose Patty and Billy's son Jason in 1988 at age 13 and then sadly their daughter Jessica 20 years later in 2008. It was during these times Mom's strength of support and love helped guide not only Patty and Billy through these terrible times, but all of us as well. She was more than our Mom, Tutu, Toots and Great Tutu"¦.she was a friend and confidant. And she loved dearly her sons-in-law: Billy, Bruce, Fred, Mike and Brent. As Billy said, "She was the coolest woman." She was the Mother-in-law you WANTED to move in and not leave!

Mom's zest for life and her "Go for it!" attitude helped her battle the health issues she would encounter. Never one to complain, she would say "things could always be worse". Forever looking on the bright side of life she was and is a source of inspiration for all who knew and loved her. We all are the better because of her.

To know Mom you also had to know that (besides you and us) she LOVED mice, shells, wood, reading, candles, the Geico gecko ("he's so cute!"), flowers (particularly red hibiscus which she would pick every day and put next to Jason and Jessica's pictures), anything made from " or the color of " turquoise, anything miniature, handmade things, her pets (dogs, cats, and a white rat named Charlene), pictures of all children, anything Hawaiian, and of course, Hawaii. Nature was her favorite medium.

For 38 years she lived at her home in Longwood surrounded by many neighbors she called friends. Blessed that she had friends in Sandy and Mike and their grandson Jeffrey, Joan, John and Dottie, Robin and Mike, Irmgard, Uwe and Mark and especially his daughter Marika were close to her heart. And then there was Madeleine, her soul sister, and Ron. Madeleine would often say that our Mom changed her life for the better. She is who she is now thanks to her. Mom would finally accept this gracious compliment after many years. Madeleine said of her we all learned many life lessons from this special woman. No truer words were ever spoken. We thank God that he chose her for our Mother. We thank all her friends for their support. We thank you Mom for always believing in all of us, for the unconditional love and support you showed each of us and how you taught us to be thankful for what we have and to look on the brighter side of life, to have enthusiasm and to remember to laugh.

If we neglected to mention your name, just please know that if you knew our Mom, you were already her friend"¦..

Mary married William Paul Jacobs on 13 Jan 1945 in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. William (son of William Wesley Jacobs and Mabel Salome Smith) was born on 14 Feb 1922 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Historian. ?."CBS SportsLine takes a look back at some of the most memorable games in Orange Bowl history.
    Jan. 1, 1965
    Texas 21
    Alabama 17
The Crimson Tide, led by Joe Namath, had already been named national champion, succeeding the Longhorns, so this first major bowl game played at night was for bragging rights between the last two national champions. The Longhorns jumped to a 21-7 lead, but Namath - who did not start due to a knee injury but came off the bench to finish with an Orange Bowl record 18 pass completions for 255 yards - led the Tide back into contention. He threw a 20-yard TD pass to Ray Perkins in the third quarter, and engineered a drive that resulted in David Ray's field goal early in the fourth to make it 21- 17. Jim Fuller's fumble recovery at the Texas 38 set the Tide up for the potential winning score, and Namath moved Alabama into position with a pair of pass completions that carried to the five. But Steve Bowman was stuffed on three straight carries, and finally, Namath was stopped on a quarterback sneak at the one on fourth down. Alabama had one more possession, but it ended when Namath's future New York Jets teammate, Pete Lammons, picked off one of his passes."

Pete played in the 1967 All-Star Game. In 1967, he set the AFL, tight end, receiving record: 8 catches for 141 yards, the most yards in a single game. Pete Lammons played on the World Championship football team of 1968, in the most famous Super Bowl of all - now known as Super Bowl III - in which a lowly AFL team beat the best of the NFL for the world championship. To much of America, and certainly to the NFL, the American Football League was somewhere between a minor league and a joke.

The Jan. 12, 1969, game wasn't called the Super Bowl then. That would come a year later. This game, tickets for it said, was the Third World Championship Game. Ticket cost was $12. It was during this game that quarterback Joe Namath made good on a preposterous guarantee -- that his New York Jets would beat the seemingly unbeatable Baltimore Colts. They did, 16-7. "Maybe Jets tight end Pete Lammons put it best. As NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle entered New York' s locker room to present the trophy, Lammons shouted: "Hey, Pete Welcome to the AFL "
