    • Kenneth Lee Messer of Coffee Springs went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 1, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 77.

      Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Geneva, Alabama with Rev. Don Tew, Rev. Bill Pritchett, and Rev. Dave Hingson officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Eden Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, June 2, 2015, from 6-8 PM.

      Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Eden Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Brenda Jones, 1207 W. Pine Avenue, Geneva, AL 36340 or El Bethel Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 9432 Hwy 27, Chancellor, AL 36316.

      Ken was born October 9, 1937, in Geneva County to the late Hardy Lee and Pearlie Murdock Messer. He was a dedicated Christian who served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for numerous years. He served his community as Mayor and Council member for 20 years. Ken was a man of few words and possessed a quiet and generous spirit, and showed his love in actions and deeds. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend.

      Ken retired from Fort Rucker, Alabama as an electronic technician. He was self-employed and served as a high school teacher. In his earlier years, he served in the U.S. Army.

      In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lori Denise Messer and an infant brother, Wayne Messer.

      Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Martin Messer, and his devoted children, Darrell Messer and Deena (Greg) Jones of Coffee Springs, and other extended family and friends.


      The family wishes to thank Ann Lawford, NP, other special caregivers, Jackie Anthony and Linda Peavey, as well as Teresa Carr and the other Alacare hospice staff.
